Pluginless Unity?

One piece of news that came out of Google I/O was that Unity could be played on Google Chrome (without the Unity plugin) through Native Client. As Unity developers we see this as a huge step in the right direction. A big hurdle when talking with prospective clients is the fact that the user will have to download a plugin. Not a topic that people just gloss over.

If Native Client becomes widely adopted, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that we could see Unity websites, similar to Flash sites. Disregarding the obvious SEO issues, this could provide spectacular user experiences for the right clients.

We’ll be keeping our eyes on this, but with or without Native Client, we feel Unity has put its mark on the interactive world.
